An adjustable entrance reducer with a green plastic base rail and sliding doors that move left or right along a built-in track to create different configurations. Available with yellow or blue sliders.
Three settings in one
- Full Lockdown / Travel Mode: Sliding the panels completely shut blocks the main opening. Tiny ventilation slits integrated into the panels allow airflow while preventing bees from escaping — perfect for moving a hive safely.
- Mouse Guard: Centering or aligning the panels exposes the jagged, scalloped section of the green rail. The archways are large enough for individual honeybees to come and go seamlessly, but too small for destructive field mice or large insect pests to squeeze through.
- Robbing Prevention / Weak Colony Mode: Slide the doors to isolate a single small opening. This reduces the entry perimeter so a weak or newly established colony can easily defend their home against yellowjackets or robber bees from neighbouring hives.
How to install it
- Clean the area: Ensure the bottom board entrance is free of dead bees, propolis, or burr comb.
- Set the opening: Adjust the sliding tabs on the track to match your desired wintering or defense setting before securing it.
- Mount to the hive: Push the green frame flush into the lower slot between your bottom board and the first brood chamber.
- Secure (optional): Use the pre-drilled screw holes at both ends and the middle of the green frame to mount it firmly to the wooden hive wall. This prevents larger pests from lifting or knocking the guard out of place.
